Princeton Pool

When I arrived at this small lot in Princeton, New Jersey, an addition to the house was being built and a pool was already in place, minus a pool patio. It was completely barren and the ultimate construction mud pit.

The design solution included a patio area and pool deck separated by trees and grasses to make an intriguing web of interconnected spaces. Nearby neighbors are screened and there is a sense of being in your own private world of intimacy and peaceful relaxation. Trees near the house can make a beautiful and valuable contribution in achieving uniquely shaded spaces and privacy, contrary to common beliefs that any tree near a house is bad.
